"I'm not sure which is more fun, being Mrs. Kristen Jared, wife of a local hero or Bryan Jared, husband of an LEX 18 Reporter! Both certainly have their perks! Our story is a unique one that we cannot wait to tell little Colton some day. Bryan and I met during one of the biggest tragedies to hit Kentucky in years, the crash of Comair Flight 5191. A beautiful wedding soon followed and we capped off a blessed 2007 with the birth of our son. What a blessing! We are still not sure who Colton looks like, but he acts a lot like daddy. A little mischievous, extremely lovable and very handsome! Balancing work and family is no easy task, but it is certainly the most rewarding. It helps to work in a newsroom with so many wonderful and experienced moms!."

"Like many parents today, much of my time is taken up with planning "enrichment activities" for my children -- things I didn't have the opportunity to participate in as a child. Today, my husband and I debated the merits of private baseball lessons for our son, and if our daughter is better suited for ballet or gymnastics. All this on top of the already busy schedule they both keep from preschool and dance, to chess tournaments and academic team practice. Later that night, as winds howled outside and my daughter didn't want to be left alone during the storm, my son and I both piled into her bed and had a singing contest. We took turns singing our favorite songs and deciding which ones were best. Before we knew it we were all laughing at my 4 year old's attempts to sing "Rock This Town", and my 10 year old playing air guitar to accompany her. No one noticed the storm anymore. And I was reminded that more than anything, our children's lives are "enriched" when we simply spend time with them. That's the most important lesson of all."

Leigh Searcy"Motherhood is such an adventure! From being in television news, I’ve seen and experienced just about everything. I can honestly say, none of it compares to the experiences of parenthood. My little boy is now 14 months old and teaching me new things all the time. For example, dinner time is a lesson in patience! Like most kids his age, Reece loves to play a game of throwing food from his highchair. We’re quickly finding out that is his way of interacting with us. To him, it really is a game. He’s too young to know the spaghetti stains on the area rug and wall aren’t easy to clean. The candid moments make up for the extra housework. Just listening to him say new words like, “Ah-oh and shoes” and knowing he comprehends what he is saying, is one of the best rewards of all! Our biggest surprise so far, though, is finding out Reece will soon have a baby sister! Before he even turned a year old, I learned I was expecting. I’m glad to know Reece has “shown us the ropes” as we get ready to raise Irish twins! Everyday will be a wild adventure!"
